ACuteTox passed on to the next phase

The consortium meeting held in February 2008 in Konstanz, concluded the phase of data compilation and generation within the ACuteTox project.

At the meeting, a pre-release of a new software (Acusoft) was presented, which hopefully will facilitate the estimation and comparison of IC50 values from atypical dose-response curves obtained in different test systems and with different compounds.

Furthermore, it could be concluded that the incorporation of chemical properties of a given compound (such as pH, lipophilicity, protein binding) are good indicators of their kinetic behaviour and very efficient correction factors for the correlation between in vivo and in vitro data.

The main conclusion from the meeting was that it is not possible at this moment to select the best performing methods to be included in the testing strategy. Obtained data needs to be further analysed.

A brainstorming meeting, with members of the Advisory Board and ECVAM, will held in May 2008 in order to find different alternative ways to analyse the obtained data. The methods to be included in the testing strategy will be selected in October 2008.

Soon thereafter, the selection of labs will take place in order to start a reduced scale pre-validation in January 2009.
